The skirt steak was out of this world! The salmon and chicken fajitas were also very good - in fact the salmon was cooked perfectly. chicken fajitas, sweet-glazed salmon, and the marinated skirt steak, along with sides of rice and beans. The organizer of the event had a range of food that came out, so we ended up trying the. My wife and I joined a group of friends to celebrate a birthday at La Casa de Isaac, which was our first time at the restaurant. There is a full bar for those who want something more than soft drinks to go with their meals. Not to mention some guacamole and salsa anc chips. Steaks are good, as are the whole fish, and for the adventurous (and hungry) diner, the Molcajete, a heated up lava-rock mortar filled with skirt steak, chorizo, cactus, black beans, and cheese! I am more of a seafood person, so went with the ahi tacos. There are the usual range of tacos, enchiladas, etc., but some with different fillings than the usual Mexican places. Other than that, lots to pick from on their menus, their regular one and then their specials as well. They are open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, although you need to note that they close at 3 PM on Friday afternoons and do not reopen until 530 Pm on Saturday. They love to make recommendations on what would be good (and there is plenty here that is good) and chat with both regulars and newcomers alike. I have never had to make reservations here over the years, although it can get busy in. Plenty of street parking in downtown Highwood for this location. They actually have two locations on the North Shore, one in Highland Park and this one in Highwood. Service was attentive and friendly, price was very reasonable for the quality of the food you get. (the sea bass was cooked perfectly, so juicy and soft you would think that the sauce on the sea bass would over-power it, but it was amazingly flavorful without being harsh and acidic, like some Mexican tomato and pepper sauces can be) - my favorite dish! Sea bass with salad, rice, mango salsa, etc. Chicken tamale with mole sauce, beans, sweet plantains (the tamale was served open, like a layered casserole, delicious, and plantains perfectly grilled and sweet.yum!) Menudo - tripe soup (so flavorful, a bit spicy in the right way, tripe cooked to tender perfection) Margarita (fine), guacamole (fresh!), salsa, smoked brisket empanadas (meat so juicy and tender) Posting a few pix, and keeping my review brief, I'm just commenting quickly on the dishes in the photos I'll post: Basically, think of it as raising the level of Mexican cooking up a couple of notches, mixed with love the dishes are superb in both concept and execution. I've had plenty of Mexican food and plenty of kosher and kosher-style food I could not imagine how the two. Keeping this brief: My friend enticed me to try La Casa de Isaac one evening I had my doubts.but boy am I glad we came.
